It was a strong showing for the Wyoming County Chamber’s “Shop Wyoming and Win” annual Buy Local promotion in spite of the challenges faced by small businesses and residents this year. We are is pleased to announce the selection of the three lucky winning individuals who were randomly chosen on Tuesday, February 9, 2021.
This year’s winners are: Jeffery Wheeler of Bergen won a Char-Broil Gas Grill donated by Ace Hardware of Attica and Warsaw; Glenna Hinkson from East Bethany won the massaging/heated rocker recliner donated by Harding’s Furniture, Flooring & Mattress in Attica; and Chloe Straw of Gainesville won Shop Local Gift Card Basket valued at $1,000.
The Wyoming County Chamber & Tourism holds the annual drawing at the Wyoming County Board of Supervisors' regular February Meeting. Town Supervisors, Jerry Davis from Covington, Doug Berwanger from Arcade, and Ellen Grant from Bennington assisted by drawing the winning tickets during the meeting.
“On behalf of the Chamber and the community, we extend congratulations to all the winners of this year’s “Shop Wyoming and Win” buy-local promotion,” said Chamber President Scott Gardner. “Thank you to the many businesses who participated this year with support and placing of drop boxes. We also thank everyone who shopped locally in Wyoming County, as it was critical to helping our local businesses this holiday season.”
“The prizes are made possible with the strong support of local county businesses. We thank Ace Hardware of Attica and Warsaw for the generous donation of the Char-Broil gas grill, and sincerely thank Harding’s Furniture, Flooring & Mattress for donating the Rocker Recliner,” concluded Gardner. “These businesses were generous participants and we hope that shoppers will stop in to support these outstanding local family-run small businesses throughout the year.”
This year marks the tenth year the Chamber has sponsored the holiday promotion as part of the Wyoming County Chamber of Commerce’s shop local programs. After weeks of planning and delivering the entry boxes to small businesses all over the county, the contest kicked off on “Black Friday” 2020.
A record number of 782 shoppers participated by submitting receipts totaling $579,545, and generating estimated sales taxes of $46,363 during the promotional period. Participants were required to save their receipts from purchases made in Wyoming County between “Black Friday,” and Christmas Eve. They then submitted the receipts by mail, in-person, or in drop boxes by the deadline in early January. For every $50 worth of purchases made in Wyoming County, the participants were eligible for one entry in the drawing that took place on February 9, 2021.
